About the Role

The retirement benefits specialist acts as a technical guide for staff and agencies who need help with retirement rules. You will interpret statutes, review complex cases, and assist with advanced benefit matters. You will also build training materials, lead staff learning sessions, and improve written procedures. Your work will support both daily operations and long term program improvement.

Main duties include.

• Develop and lead training for retirement staff.
• Update written procedures for daily work.
• Solve technical issues tied to retirement processing.
• Review and guide complex benefit re checks.
• Support agencies, institutions, and members with advanced questions.
• Review system performance and note issues that need updates.
• Lead special projects assigned by leadership.

This role may be filled as a probational appointment, promotion, or detail to special duty. Applicants already in classified service may enter on a probational basis if needed.

Required Experience

You must meet one of the following paths.

• Six years of experience in employee benefits.
• Six years of full time work in any field plus three years in employee benefits.
• A bachelor’s degree plus three years in employee benefits.
• A CRC or CEBS designation plus two years in employee benefits.

Approved college hours may replace up to four years of general work experience.
