About the Role
The Dairy Manufacturing Maintenance Manager is responsible for the effective execution of all maintenance activities within the facility. This includes preventive and predictive maintenance programs, troubleshooting complex equipment issues, supervising maintenance mechanics, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The role requires strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate maintenance operations to support safety, quality, reliability, and productivity goals. The Manager also provides guidance aligned with Kroger’s core values and oversees the development of maintenance team members to ensure a skilled, capable workforce.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe, efficient, and effective use of all maintenance craft resources.
- Supervise, coach, and support direct reports; conduct performance reviews and provide consistent feedback.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DHEC, NEC, and FDA regulations.
- Oversee maintenance mechanics performing approved maintenance activities, ensuring quality, cost control, duration, and completeness.
- Assign and audit Preventive and Predictive Maintenance (PPM) work orders.
- Review and verify accuracy of pre-planned job packages including labor needs, tools, materials, priorities, and methods.
- Collaborate with the planner and craft resources to improve job package quality and efficiency.
- Identify training needs for each maintenance team member and ensure proper job assignments based on skills and abilities.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure excellent housekeeping throughout the facility.
- Lead equipment troubleshooting efforts to resolve breakdowns and production issues.
- Ensure all labor, parts usage, and maintenance activities are accurately recorded in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Follow established food safety and quality programs, ensuring products meet regulatory and company standards.
- Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.
- Uphold and model the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles.
- Ensure ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work around ingredients and products that may contain food allergens.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or at least 6 years of technical experience in food manufacturing with strong preventive and predictive maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), OSHA and EPA requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills and leadership capability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering.
- Eight or more years of progressive food industry experience focused on maintenance, utilities, and continuous improvement.
- Experience supervising plant maintenance teams and providing technical workforce development.
- Background in continuous improvement methodologies.
