What the role covers

The Senior Trade Consultant joins the Mohawk Global Trade Advisory team. This group supports clients with import and export compliance, training, reviews and key trade documents. You help clients find gaps, make plans and follow U.S. rules for customs, export controls and shipment safety. You support sales teams when needed and represent the company in client sessions and trade groups.

You also help improve tools, templates and processes that support compliance work across the team. You act as a subject matter expert in trade rules and guide others so they can support clients with care and accuracy.

Main responsibilities

Serve as a compliance expert

You act as the main guide for clients on U.S. customs and export rules. You understand CBP rules, EAR and ITAR regulations. You help clients review their current process and find areas that need change.

Conduct compliance assessments

You perform gap reviews for both import and export programs. You create plans that help clients improve their processes. You provide clear steps that clients can follow to meet rules and reduce risk.

Develop manuals and training

You build written guides and training materials that support customs and export needs. You prepare simple documents that help clients follow procedures the right way. You train teams when requested so they understand how to manage their compliance work.

Identify savings and reduce risk

You look at tariff options and free trade agreements to find savings. You review HTS choices, country of origin marking and recordkeeping needs. You help clients manage valuation issues, first sale and transfer pricing. You support FTA decisions and ensure clients meet partner agency rules like FDA or USDA.

Support client inquiries

You help clients prepare ruling requests and prior disclosures. You review customs audits and respond to inquiries. You support clients with matters tied to trade remedies, forced labor enforcement and sanctions checks.

Improve team tools and methods

You work with other MGTA members to improve templates and systems. You guide updates that help the team deliver work faster and with better clarity.

Represent the company

You speak with clients, trade groups and other partners in a professional way. You join sales teams when your subject knowledge is needed. You help the company stay connected with trade organizations in its service areas.

Requirements

Education and experience

You must be a licensed customs broker with eight or more years of hands-on work in customs compliance. You also need at least five years of experience in export compliance. You should know ITAR, EAR and OFAC rules well. A bachelor’s degree in business, trade or supply chain is helpful but not required.

You must know how to use ACE, ABI systems and tools that support compliance checks. You need experience reviewing data and making decisions based on clear analysis.

Skills and abilities

You must know U.S. customs rules, export control rules and other agency needs. You must understand supply chain security and CTPAT practices. You need strong writing skills for client reports and training content.

You should know how to classify products under HTSUS, Schedule B, USML and ECCN. You must be organized and able to manage several projects at once. You should be comfortable working alone or within a team structure. You must know how to interact with clients in a steady and professional way.
