About the Role
As a per diem Occupational Therapist, you help residents who face physical or cognitive challenges that limit their ability to perform daily tasks. You begin each case by reviewing the patient’s current condition and understanding what they can and cannot do safely. You then design a care plan that supports safe movement, better function and improved quality of life.
Your work may include strength training, fine motor exercises, adaptive techniques and other methods that help residents manage daily tasks more independently. You monitor progress and adjust plans when you see changes. You also keep detailed notes to meet facility, state and federal requirements.
You work closely with other therapists, nurses and care staff. These interactions help keep treatment plans clear and support smooth teamwork. Your role brings structure, skill and steady direction to each patient’s rehab journey.
What You Will Do
You assess each patient’s functional abilities and identify what limits their daily activities. You create a treatment plan that outlines simple goals the patient can understand and work toward. You guide the patient through exercises and techniques that match their needs and abilities.
You check in with team members to make sure everyone understands the care plan. You maintain up-to-date documentation, including physician orders and progress notes. Your work helps patients build strength, confidence and skills for daily living.
Qualifications
You need a degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
You may need NBCOT certification depending on state rules.
You must hold a current state license as an Occupational Therapist.
You need strong communication skills and a clear, organized work style.
New graduates are welcome and can receive mentorship.
