Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for book keeping, financial reporting as per IFRS standards and understating of local tax compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate books of accounts including AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Inventory, and General Ledger.
• Post daily cash-ups, process bank payments, and perform ledger reconciliations.
• Reconcile VAT, QPT, and Payroll tax returns.
• Handle creditor and debtor reconciliations.
• Maintain records of imports (BOEs) and local purchases.
• Prepare acquittals for bank submission.
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, annually).
• Update fixed asset register (additions, disposals, depreciation).
• Assist with intercompany reconciliation.
• Liaise with external auditors and resolve audit queries.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, tax regulations, and international accounting standards.
• Contribute to process improvements within the finance function.

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Studying towards or completion of a professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CA) is an added advantage.
• 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance role.
• Strong knowledge of Zimbabwean taxation laws and statutory reporting.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Pastel, QuickBooks, Sage) and MS Excel.
• Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills.
• High attention to detail and integrity.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
