Location: ​Chipinge/Buhera
Duration:​Full Time Fixed Term Contract – January 2026 (3 months’ probation) with possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance

Terre Des Hommes Italia (TDH Italy), a child rights organisation seeks to hire two Agriculture Assistants based at ward level in the districts of operation. The Agriculture Assistants will be responsible for ward level activities to influence the close support and implementation of SAFAZ Project in Chipinge and Buhera Rural.

• Serve as the main field contact person for the project, ensuring strong collaboration between the project team, local authorities, schools, and beneficiary communities.
• Support the establishment and operationalization of community and school nutrition gardens, ensuring compliance with cropping calendars and agroecological methods.
• Facilitate the development of diversified food systems in target wards, promoting soil conservation, water harvesting, organic composting, and local seed use.
• Support the formation and strengthening of commodity associations and value chains for traditional grains and other locally adapted crops.
• Contribute to the monitoring of civil works and constructions.
• Assist in the digitalization and dissemination of local climate and weather information.
• Mobilize and register project beneficiaries, ensuring gender-balanced participation and inclusion of vulnerable households.
• Support community and school trainings on sustainable agriculture, nutrition-sensitive farming, and post-harvest management.
• Provide continuous technical backstopping and mentorship to farmers, women’s groups, and school garden committees.
• Conduct field data collection, baseline surveys, and regular monitoring visits in coordination with the M&E Officer and Project Coordinator.
• Track progress of project indicators at the community level and document key challenges, lessons learned, and best practices.
• Contribute to the development of success stories, and prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly field reports.
• Facilitate coordination between local stakeholders (wards, AGRITEX, schools, health institutions, and traditional leaders) for effective implementation.
• Ensure smooth communication and collaboration among implementing partners at ward level.
• Represent the project in ward-level development meetings and community mobilization events.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
• Education:
o Diploma in Agriculture, Agroecology, Horticulture, Animal Production, or related field from a recognized institution.
• Work Experience:
o Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an Agricultural Extension Officer or in similar rural development roles
o Proven experience in community-based agricultural programs, particularly in nutrition-sensitive agriculture, agroecology, or climate-smart farming
• Prior experience with
o borehole siting, drilling supervision, solarization
o fish farming and small livestock production (goats, poultry)
o Management of community and school gardens
o Formation and facilitation of commodity associations or cooperatives
o Harvesting, aggregating, processing and marketing traditional grains
• Ability to ride a motorbike and operate effectively in remote, rural environments (valid driving license required)
• Strong community mobilization and training facilitation skills.
• Ability to collect, organize, and report field data accurately and timely.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender equity and inclusive development.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• High level of integrity, accountability, and resilience under field conditions.
