Job Description

LOCATION: HARARE

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing company in the agro-processing sector, specifically within the milling industry, for the position of Accountant. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive, with a strong background in accounting and a solid understanding of Zimbabwean taxation systems.The successful candidate will oversee the full spectrum of accounting functions including maintaining accurate financial records, performing regular reconciliations, managing statutory obligations, and supporting financial decision-making. As the role involves periodic field visits to company sites, suppliers, and vendors, a valid driver’s license is mandatory.

Candidates with prior experience in the milling, agro-processing, or manufacturing industry are highly encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
• Maintain, update, and reconcile general and subsidiary ledgers daily and monthly.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Record journal entries, accruals, and depreciation in accordance with financial reporting standards.
• Manage accounts payable (supplier payments) and accounts receivable (customer collections).
• Perform bank reconciliations and manage daily cash flow.
• Oversee and document all petty cash transactions.
• Process supplier invoices, payroll, and statutory payments in a timely and accurate manner.
Cost & Inventory Accounting
• Monitor raw material usage and milling production costs to assess profitability.
• Conduct cost analyses, support budget planning, and report on variances.
• Track stock movements and reconcile inventory between physical counts and system records.
• Collaborate with procurement and warehouse teams to ensure accurate stock valuation.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Zimbabwean tax laws and statutory obligations:
o PAYE processing and remittance
o NSSA contributions
o VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), and Corporate Tax filings
• Prepare and submit statutory returns such as QPDs, ITF16s, and VAT returns on time.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for audits and inspections.
• Liaise with ZIMRA and other authorities when necessary.
Audit & Internal Controls
• Prepare audit schedules and provide supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
• Enforce and recommend improvements to internal financial controls.
• Ensure strict adherence to company financial procedures and policies.
Systems & Process Management
• Utilize accounting software such as Sage Pastel, QuickBooks, or other ERP systems.
• Generate and analyze reports using Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP, etc.).
• Support enhancements to financial systems and process automation.
Operational & Field Support
• Visit branches, vendors, and partners for account reconciliations and inventory verifications.
• Analyze financial data to provide actionable insights for operational efficiency.
• Assist in financial planning for procurement and strategic decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• 1–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a milling, manufacturing, or agro-processing environment
• Strong knowledge of Zimbabwean taxation and statutory compliance
• Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage Pastel, QuickBooks, ERP systems)
• Advanced Excel skills (including pivot tables, formulas, and VLOOKUP)
• Familiarity with cost accounting and inventory control
• Valid driver’s license is mandatory
•Preferred age range: 23 – 30 years
