Job Description

  • RCL FOODS is seeking a Shift Manager to join our Foods Division.
  • The role will be based in Krugersdorp and report to the Production Manager.
  • This Shift Manager will be responsible for the production output of the factory, ensuring operational efficiency by monitoring resource allocation, cost management, safety and health, stock management, quality and food safety.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the total Production Plan and execution of such.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in Production Management/Industrial Engineering/Operations Management/Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering.
  • 3-year experience in a similar role (FMCG or Food Production industry).
  • Knowledge of people and business management.
  • Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) or Lean practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).
  • Ability to interact at all levels of the organisation.
  • People-oriented and results-focused.
  • Excellent time management and planning skills.

Duties & Responsibilities    
Production Planning & Execution:

  • Interpretation of the production plan against stock on hand and raw materials availability.
  • Ensures that raw materials nearing the end of shelf life are planned for use to reduce waste.
  • Ensures availability of resources to deliver on the plan.
  • Communicates the plan to the team leaders.
  • Ensures understanding of the plan and availability of cooking pots and dollies, laminator functionality, staff availability, pie lines readiness and packaging material.
  • Liaises with procurement department, logistics and senior production senior management team.

Resources Allocation:

  • Ensures that there are employees available to work in the place of people who are on sick or annual leave.
  • Ensures that the people resources are allocated such that production imperatives are achieved with minimum effort.

Cost Management:

  • Manages overtime costs and time-and-attendance records.
  • Ensures that PPE issues are in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensures that raw materials nearing their shelf life are utilized before the useful life date.

SHERQ Systems Compliance:

  • Ensures that team leaders and their subordinates are fully aware of the general and specific standards relating to their duties.
  • Closes non-conformances in area of responsibility.
  • Basic knowledge of ISO 14001, FSSC 22000 and ISO 45001.
  • Ensure ongoing implementation (and where possible improvement) of the Quality and Food Safety system.

Employee Relations:

  • Ensures good working relations in the production environment.
  • Conducts meetings with his team to communicate business and operational matters.
  • Addresses issues of performance and behavior which deviate from expectations.
  • Provides counselling to employees who need help with their jobs or need hard talking when behavior varies from the expectation.

Performance Management:

  • Ensures that direct reports understand their roles.
  • Direct reports apprised of & performance shortfalls are identified and acted upon.
  • Liaise with the Human Resources Department to ensure that a suitable intervention is employed to address the performance gaps.

Stock Taking Coordination/Management:

  • Ensures that the monthly stock-taking process is pre-planned and resources available. Allocates the responsibilities of counting.

Operational Excellence:

  • Applies continuous improvement principles to reduce waste, improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Adopts the methodology of Plan, Do, Check and Act (PDCA) to daily implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures that recounts are performed accurately where deviations are observed.
  • Ensures that individual counters return and sign off all stock counting sheets.

Report Writing & Procedure Development:

  • Consolidates factory input sheets to determine units produced per day, week and month.
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures.

Quality and Food Safety:

  • Ensure ongoing implementation (and where possible improvement) of the Quality and Food Safety system through the systematic implementation of the relevant food safety requirements as defined in the Food Safety RACI Matrix and relevant policies and procedures (SOPs).
