Job Summary:

  • To maximize revenues by utilizing all available tools and channels, constantly researching the market and effectively communicating with all relevant departments.
  • Responsible for the overall planning and implementation of revenue & distribution strategies and objectives.
  • Responsible for the formulation and implementation of long and short-term revenue and occupancy generating strategies for each channel, ensuring that maximum yield is applied and rate integrity is maintained.
  • To manage the hotels daily, weekly, monthly and annual reporting requirements through the management of a Business Analyst position.

Budget & Management:

  • Directly manage an annual cost budget of x
  • Directly manage 1 headcount (Business Analyst)
  • Manage an annual revenue budget of x in conjunction with Sales
  • Directly manage an OTA revenue budget of x

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the formulation and application of rate strategies across different market segments, achieving high occupancy, ADR & REVPAR, and increased fair market share in comparison to competitive set
  • Control the rates and availability of the hotel through a proactive approach to yield and revenue maximisation, ensuring that the hotel maintains its rate integrity while generating volume across all market segments
  • Analyse and interpret information regarding micro and macro environmental concerns and formulate proactive strategies to capitalise on opportunities, shifts, downturns and trends in the market
  • To maximise revenue generation during peak and non-peak periods by applying and practicing demand based pricing strategies in order to stabilise business periods and create volume while maintaining rates
  • Constantly evaluates results vs. strategies and modifies approach where required
  • Monitor competitor availability and pricing on a daily basis, using all available tools such as Industry Reports, Internet, Ring Around and subsequently analyze & report actual performance versus competitive set
  • Ensure available technology (PMS, CRS, OTA’s and GDS) is fully utilized and understood according to property specific business mix and requirements
  • Ensure optimal use, and measure performance on all distribution channels, to ensure that fair market share is achieved if not surpassed, e.g. oneandonly.com, GDS, and e-channels. Assist the Sales & Marketing Team in devising marketing campaigns, to ensure that the Hotel reaches the right people, at the right time, in the right place
  • Carry out analysis of Booking Patterns & Market Trends, and ensure that these are recorded to facilitate future decisions
  • Analyze Tour Operator allocations performance
  • Be the local champion for the introduction of the Rainmaker Revenue Management software application into One&Only Cape Town
  • Manage a systematic program of online advertising to support the OTA and direct online channels in conjunction with Marketing
  • To identify and propose the hotel pricing strategy by market segment with reference to market intelligence, buying patterns and pre determined seasonality
  • To identify and propose tactical offers to generate incremental revenues
  • To actively participate in the production of the hotel’s annual budget and to assist in the creation, update and evaluation of the hotel Strategy Plan and annual rate planning exercise
  • To prepare a weekly Revenue / Sales Strategy Meeting. Collate and distribute meeting minutes of notes on forecast and strategy changes, including weekly action plan
  • Identify procedures for effective workflow for all revenue related areas
  • To ensure all standards and processes and procedures for Revenue Management & Distribution are followed
  • Drive Projects related to revenue management & Distribution
  • To continuously manipulate availability & rates while ensuring parity across all distribution channels.  This allows maximum flexibility to capture all market buying patterns while optimizing REVPAR
  • To propose incremental revenue generators to maximize overall hotel revenue
  •  Set monthly targets of up selling revenue for front office and reservations department
  • Maintaining high standards of data quality through system maintenance and audits
  • Responsible to drive maximum revenues through all available Booking channels by applying relevant pricing and inventory management
  • Ensure daily/weekly/monthly reporting to the regional/corporate office is adhered to in a timely & accurate manner
  • Directly manage the local Business Analyst which reports to this position
  • Liaise with Sales and Marketing to ensure all promotion / programs are fully understood and right for the business
  • Understand the dynamics of the Global, National, Regional & Local Political and Economic Market, local Competitors and all demand generators for the destination
  • Assist in Recruitment & Selection into the Revenue department
  • Ensure an effective Training & Development Calendar is in place & adhered to, that all Team members have a Personal Development Plan and clearly defined objectives, and that a Succession Plan exists within the department
  • To undertake any other tasks reasonably requested by the General Manager and/or the Group Director Revenue Management & Distribution

Skills, Experience & Education Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working in Revenue Management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to think creatively and interact at all levels of the organisation.
  • Cognitive skills, including financial and quantitative analysis and problem analysis.
  • Extensive experience working in Excel and Word
  • Experience of Opera, Data Mining tools and Hotel Revenue Management Systems would be advantageous but is not essential
  • High level of numeracy
  • Strong and highly developed analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at one time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Numerate Degree or equivalent
  • Distribution Management experience essential
