Research Technician: Entomology (Onderstepoort)
Description
- Assist with research on insects of veterinary importance in the field including Black flies, Culicoides, Stomoxys, Tabanid and Tsetse flies.
- Maintenance and administration of the tsetse colony.
- Take irradiated blood for bioassays and interpret the results.
- Update weekly tsetse colony mortality database.
- Development and implementation of SOPs for radiation biology experiments and the tsetse colony maintenance.
- Responsible for maintaining infrastructure and facilities.
- Responsible for training interns and providing support as needed.
- Adhering to all Safety and GLP rules and regulations.
Requirements
- National Diploma in Veterinary Technology.
- B-Tech in Veterinary Technology will be added advantage.
- Professional membership: SAVC/SACNASP registration will be added advantage.
- A valid driver’s Licence.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of insect mass-rearing.
- Knowledge of radiation biology experiments, data analysis and interpretation of generated data.
- Knowledge of R-Studio and MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access).
