Product Manager (Automotive)

Job Purpose:

  • The Product Manager is responsible for managing the lifecycle of all vehicle models offered by the business—from market analysis and product planning through to launch, pricing, and after-sales alignment. This role ensures that the imported vehicle range is strategically positioned to meet customer needs, align with regulatory compliance, and drive profitability for the company and the retail network in conjunction with the finance department.

Academic Qualifications
Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.

Advantageous:

  • Postgraduate qualification.

Note:

  • Unendorsed Driver’s License required.

Work Experience
Essential:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, automotive retail, or OEM/import operations.
  • Experience launching new vehicle models and working with international manufacturers.
  • Automotive market research experience.
  • Experience working with global teams and suppliers.
  • Proven track record of managing the full product lifecycle from concept to launch.
  • Background in electric vehicles (EV), autonomous driving, or mobility-as-a-service (MAAS).

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of automotive products, technologies, and lifecycle planning.
  • Knowledge of import regulations, homologation, and vehicle compliance processes.

Key Deliverables and Outputs
Product Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and manage the product portfolio strategy in alignment with market trends and customer expectations.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking and gap analysis to inform model introductions, feature offerings, and positioning.
  • Define product specifications and configurations in collaboration with HQ, ensuring market suitability.
  • Partner with marketing and sales teams to develop go-to-market (GTM) positioning, messaging, pricing, and promotional strategies.
  • Monitor product KPIs, customer feedback, and market performance to drive continuous improvement.

Lifecycle & Pricing Management

  • Manage the introduction, phase-in, and phase-out strategies of vehicle models.
  • Develop pricing structures and volume forecasts to maximise revenue and market share in conjunction with the finance and sales departments.
  • Map product vs. competitors using spec price-value analysis and report monthly price positioning changes versus strategy.
  • Adjust product strategies based on sales performance, market dynamics, and customer feedback.

Regulatory & Compliance Coordination

  • Ensure all products meet local homologation, emissions, and safety compliance standards before launch.
  • Liaise with legal and technical teams to manage documentation and certifications required for import and retail.

Market Intelligence & Analysis

  • Conduct regular market analysis to assess competitor actions, customer preferences, and emerging automotive trends.
  • Use insights to recommend product updates, feature enhancements, and new model opportunities.

Retail & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Aftersales, and Dealer Development teams to ensure product consistency and alignment.
  • Provide training and support materials to dealer networks on product positioning and features in conjunction with the training department.
  • Drive retail readiness for all new product launches, including product guides, campaign materials, and showroom tools.

Stakeholder Engagement
Internal:

  • Sales, Training, Marketing, Aftersales, Operations, Finance, Dealer Network, Executive Team

External:

  • OEM Product Teams, Compliance Authorities, Industry Bodies, Market Research Firms
