Description
- Identify and characterize Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) for insecticidal proteins such as Cry/Vip genes.
- Conduct a bioassay of Bt toxins on common maize insect pests such as the Fall Armyworm
- Study the microbial diversity of Bt inoculated/non-inoculated soils using metagenomics sequencing.
- Molecular analysis of target genes (Cry, Vip etc.) using PCR, and high-throughput sequencing.
- Publish in reputable journals and present at scientific congresses.
Requirements
- MSc in Plant Pathology/Biotechnology/Microbiology or Entomology
- Experience in Entomology (insect rearing and bioassays) is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of molecular microbiology and experience in bacterial handling in the laboratory.
- Experience in next generation sequencing (metagenomics) and microscopy.
- Experience in glasshouse /field experiments and possession of driver’s license is an added advantage.
