Heritage Symbols & Cultural History Assistant
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop poetry pieces based on Museum displays.
- Develop poetry pieces for relevant Museum programmes.
- Conduct poetry classes for Sabalala Nolwazi classes and outreach.
- Document oral expressions based on Museum displays.
- Conduct poetry sessions during Museum outreach programmes.
- Incorporate oral heritage in the interpretation of Museum displays for schools and public consumption.
- Conduct classes for schools and the public.
- Use storytelling as a teaching tool to pass on important information.
- Conduct storytelling during holiday programmes.
- Advise on indigenous artefacts that could be used to market the Museum.
- Advise on how indigenous artefacts could be used to promote heritage and social cohesion.
- Interact with the visitors and providing relevant information.
- Undertake other related tasks as required by supervisor/ HOD.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of a Tour guiding or other relevant qualification rated at NQF Level 5.
- A valid driver’s license (Code B).
- Other training in the relevant Museum or Museum related environment will be an added advantage.
- Working experience in the relevant field will be an added advantage.

The closing date for receipt of submissions is Monday, 26 January 2026 at 12:00pm. No late applications will be accepted. Please include a signed covering letter stating the position you are applying for, a CV with a list of references and copies of your identity document, driver’s license (where applicable), and all qualifications. Shortlisted candidates will be required to bring certified copies on date of interviews. Failure to attend the interview on the date and time given will automatically disqualify the candidate. Any false information and/or misrepresentation in the application will lead to an automatic disqualification of the applicant or removal from the programme, if discovered at a later stage. The Museum also reserves the right to lay criminal charges for any suspected fraudulent activities related to this process.
