Requirements and Expectations

Minimum Requirements

  • ABET Certificate.
  • Higher qualifications will serve as an added advantage.

Experience:

  • No experience required.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience performing manual work will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of general work and handling equipment and appliances.
  • Familiarity with gardening tools and lawn care techniques (pruning, trimming, etc.).
  • Knowledge of chemical use and dilution/mixing procedures.
  • Understanding of basic maintenance procedures for equipment and machines.
  • Basic knowledge supporting water utilization and water resource strategy.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures and government legislation.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Must be able to work in or near rivers, dams, and canals, including confined spaces.
  • Must be willing to assist other schemes and maintenance teams when needed.
  • Must be punctual, productive, and loyal.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain grounds, gardens, and related facilities.
  • Repair tools and structures (e.g., buildings, fences, benches) using hand and power tools.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides to plants and lawns using manual or mechanical sprayers/spreaders.
  • Ensure the upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other ground features.
  • Maintain gardens and plants, including irrigation, pruning, raking, and mulching.
  • Clean work areas, such as parking lots, walkways, and buildings (washing floors, cleaning windows, etc.).
  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and refer major repairs to service providers.
  • Keep accurate records, such as job cards and equipment repair logs.
  • Perform inspections and report defects, such as cracks, holes, and stagnant water.

Note

  • Preference will be given to candidates residing within the Klipfontein Dam geographical area in KwaZulu-Natal Province.
