• TWK Agri has the following vacancy available: Grain Trading Manager within the Grain division at Pretoria, Gauteng or Piet Retief, Mpumalanga.

Job Summary

• This role involves overseeing and managing the Grain Trading department within the Grain division of TWK Agri.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Measure the success rate of implemented trading strategies in optimising grain procurement and sales, assessed through profitability margins and market share gains
• Evaluate the ability to adjust trading strategies based on changing market conditions, demonstrated by timely responses to price fluctuations and supply-and-demand dynamics
• Assess the introduction of innovative trading approaches or techniques to enhance efficiency and profitability, measured by adoption rates and impact on overall performance
• Measure the effectiveness of identifying potential risks in grain trading activities
• Assess the success of implemented measures in reducing or eliminating identified risks
• Evaluate the financial impact of risk management initiatives on trading activities and overall profitability
• Take responsibility for the trading desk’s profit and loss performance on a monthly and annual basis
• Manage and oversee the grain logistics function
• Measure the effectiveness of pricing strategies in maximising profit margins
• Oversee grain trading administrative processes
• Manage cash flow within the grain department in conjunction with the finance department
• Measure adherence to industry regulations and standards within grain trading operations
• Assess the accuracy of forecasts relating to industry developments and market trends
• Evaluate the effectiveness of gathering and utilising information on competitors’ strategies and activities within the grain trading sector
• Managing internal and external stakeholder’s relationships
• Lead the annual departmental budgeting process
• Manage and oversee the trading, trading administration, and logistics teams
• Grow the trading department in line with the company’s strategic objectives
• Taking overall responsibility for the grain trading department

Qualifications and Skills

• Matric / Grade 12
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Economics or a related field
• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification (advantageous)
• Completed SAFEX Exam
• Relevant certifications or licenses, e.g. Certified Commodity Trader (CCT)
• Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in grain trading, agricultural commodities trading or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial role
• Strong understanding of grain markets, supply chain dynamics, and trading principles
• Sound understanding of financial metrics, budgeting, and financial analysis to manage trading activities effectively
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute trading strategies aligned with organisational objectives and market opportunities
• Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with farmers, suppliers, buyers, and industry partners to support trading operations and business growth
• Knowledge of agricultural production practices, grain quality standards, and regulatory requirements (advantageous)
• Valid Driver’s License (Code 08)
• Willing to travel
• Valid Passport (advantageous)
