Communications Officer

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Communication/Public Relations, Journalism, or related field at NQF Level 7
  • 1- 2 years relevant experience in the field of communication

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

  • Valid Code B Drivers’ license
  • Computer literacy
  • Proficiency in at least 3 of the official languages used in Phumelela Local Municipality English, Afrikaans, Sesotho and Zulu
  • Good management, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent reporting writing skills
  • High level of responsibility
  • Ability to give attention to details
  • Strong written and verbal communication, conceptual thinking, project management, and technology usage
  • Work after normal working hours, during emergencies and planned overtime

FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Link the Council with the community to ensure continuous interaction between the Council and the community is ensured
  • Ensure implementation of the approved communication strategy for the municipality
  • Maintain, coordinate and upload website content, social and print media publications
  • Assist with drafting of media releases and organise media conferences
  • Organise and manage all communication events
  • Responsible for the coordination of all activities associated with communication as the central point
  • Have photographic skill and give pictures to IT to upload on municipal website
  • Manage the social media platforms, including facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Preparing the media release to be approved by the immediate supervisor
