Assistant Pasta Maker – VKB Milling, Modderrivier

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • The Assistant Pasta Maker supports the production of dry pasta by assisting in daily operations, including flour room operation, mixing, extrusion, drying, and packaging. This role plays a key part in maintaining product quality, hygiene, and production efficiency within a food-safe environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a food production or manufacturing environment is a plus but not required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with flour transfer system from mill to production recipe bins, including the handling of the final regrinds and maintain a clean and clear flour room.
  • Support pasta extrusion processes by operating and monitoring machines under supervision.
  • Help set up, clean, and maintain equipment and work areas in compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Hourly tests of product in dryers, monitor drying cycles, and assist with unloading as needed.
  • Perform quality checks (e.g., moisture, texture, colour, shape) at various production stages.
  • Production change overs between Dies and shapes
  • Ensure Die Room is clean, Dies are washed and inspected timeously, and machine is clean and tidy
  • Package and label finished pasta products according to company standards.
  • Follow all health, safety, and hygiene standards as required by company policy and food safety laws (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
  • Assist with inventory checks and stock rotation of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Report any equipment issues, safety hazards, or production deviations to the Pasta Maker, Quality Supervisor or Business Unit Manager.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of food hygiene and workplace safety practices.
  • Good physical stamina – able to lift 25 kg (55 lbs), stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn modern pasta-making techniques.
  • Team player with good communication skills.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a food processing environment, which may be warm, humid, or noisy.
  • Use of hairnets, beard nets, Conti suits  and other protective gear is mandatory.
  • Standing, lifting, bending, and handling food products throughout the shift
