SHHEQ Officer (KZN)

Minimum Qualification / Experience & Skills:

  • A diploma or degree in Health and Safety (SAMTRAC or equivalent) is required.
  • Relevant experience in the mining and quarrying industry is essential
  • Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and related mining regulations is essential
  • Must be computer literate with good administrative abilities
  • Exercise due diligence with strong attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are necessary
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Must be able to build and maintain relationships with clients and regulatory organizations
  • Must align with company values of trust, accountability, integrity, teamwork, respect, and safety
  • Ability to take initiative and carry out duties independently
  • Flexible working hours are required due to the remote nature of operational site

Duties and responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Conduct SHHEQ (Safety, Health, Hygiene, Environment, and Quality) inspections as per the established schedule – in accordance with Regulations 2.19.1 of the Mine
  • Health and Safety Act, 1996 (Act No. 29 of 1996).
  • Assist in recording, reporting, and investigating incidents and accidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and monitored.
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day SHHEQ functions within your area of responsibility, ensuring all activities align with legal and company standards.
  • Maintain and manage operational SHHEQ files, ensuring they are complete, up-todate, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct audits on SHHEQ files and submit monthly reports for review and further action.
  • Attend SHHEQ-related meetings to ensure proper communication and alignment with SHHEQ objectives.
  • Actively participate in the development and rollout of SHHEQ initiatives and campaigns to promote a culture of safety.
  • Develop and review SOP’s, COP’s, Risk Assessments and relevant administrative documents.
  • Assist reporting managers with administrative functions related to the company’s SHHEQ management system.
  • Ensure compliance with MHSA, OHSA, BCEA, NEMA, and other relevant legislation as per the legal register.
  • Maintain the SHHEQ management system
