Requirements and Expectations

Minimum Requirements

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Carpentry).
  • A valid, unexpired driver’s license (must be disclosed).
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Performance Management and Development System (PMDS).
  • Computer literacy (MS Word and Excel).
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute technical works and projects effectively.
  • Capability to prepare technical reports when required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel, work long hours, and perform well under pressure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Render technical design, production, and maintenance services for houses, offices, pump stations, and buildings.
  • Interpret civil and carpentry drawings and set out works in accordance with design specifications.
  • Perform carpentry works—constructing, erecting, installing, finishing, and repairing wooden and metal structures and fixtures for both residential and commercial buildings.
  • Carry out finishing works on interior and exterior building components.
  • Ensure compliance with the OHS Act and PFMA in all maintenance and construction operations.
  • Ensure proper use and management of tools and materials.
  • Perform administrative and related functions, ensuring tools and equipment are serviced, maintained, and in good working condition.
  • Compile monthly maintenance and performance reports.
  • Ensure high-quality workmanship and that all civil and carpentry projects meet departmental standards.
  • Execute building construction and repair projects as assigned, following approved specifications.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff, ensuring effective performance and skills transfer.
  • Manage and motivate human resources within the discipline to maintain a competent and efficient technical team.

Note

  • Candidates may be required to complete a practical and theoretical test as part of the selection process.
