Requirements and Expectations
Minimum Requirements
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Painting).
- A valid, unexpired driver’s license (must be disclosed).
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Performance Management and Development System (PMDS).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to execute projects and technical works effectively.
- Computer literacy (MS Word and Excel).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Commitment to proper use and maintenance of tools and materials.
- Supervisory and mentoring ability to guide and develop team members.
- Ability to work long hours and perform effectively under pressure.
- Willingness to travel for operational and maintenance duties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Render technical design, production, and maintenance services for civil infrastructure, including houses, offices, pump stations, and buildings.
- Interpret civil drawings and set out works according to technical specifications.
- Perform finishing works, both interior and exterior, including fixing, repairing, and construction tasks.
- Carry out painting works, including surface preparation, paint mixing, and application on buildings, furniture, and other structures.
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act and PFMA in all maintenance and construction operations.
- Perform administrative and related functions, ensuring tools and equipment are serviced, functional, and accounted for.
- Compile and submit monthly reports on maintenance and repair activities.
- Ensure high-quality workmanship in all civil maintenance and construction projects.
- Supervise and mentor technical and support staff to enhance productivity and skills transfer.
- Manage and motivate human resources within the section to ensure a competent and efficient workforce.
- Execute departmental construction and repair projects according to approved specifications and safety standards.
