Job Summary
- The Loan Verification/Recovery Officer is responsible for verifying customer loan applications, ensuring compliance with lending requirements, and managing repayment follow-ups. The role ensures that all loan-related documentation is complete, accurate, and legitimate, while also driving effective recovery of overdue accounts to minimize credit risk and maintain portfolio quality.
Key Responsibilities
Loan Verification
- Review and verify loan applications, supporting documents, and customer information.
- Conduct background checks, reference checks, and employment verifications.
- Validate customer identity, income, guarantor information (if applicable), and collateral details.
- Ensure all documentation meets internal policies, regulatory standards, and risk guidelines.
- Identify inconsistencies, fraud indicators, or incomplete documentation, and escalate when necessary.
- Prepare verification reports and recommend approval, decline, or further investigation.
Loan Recovery & Collections
- Monitor loan repayment schedules and identify overdue accounts.
- Contact customers via phone, email, SMS, and field visits (if applicable) to recover outstanding payments.
- Negotiate repayment plans and settlements within approved limits.
- Educate customers on repayment obligations and penalties for defaults.
- Maintain detailed records of interaction and recovery actions.
- Work with legal teams on escalated default cases, including repossessions or litigation.
Qualifications & Experience
- 1–3 years experience in loan verification, credit analysis, or collections
- Experience in financial institutions, microfinance, fintech, or lending environments is an advantage
