Job Summary
- The Technician – Electrical & Generator Maintenance Officer is responsible for the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems and power generators.
- The role ensures reliable and uninterrupted power supply across facilities, adherence to safety standards, and efficiency of power-related infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Generator Maintenance & Operations:
- Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel and gas generators.
- Monitor generator parameters: fuel, oil, battery, and coolant levels.
- Diagnose and repair faults on alternators, control panels, and engines.
- Execute scheduled start-ups, shutdowns, and test runs.
- Maintain generator logs: run hours, fuel usage, servicing, and repairs.
Electrical Maintenance:
- Install, repair, and maintain wiring, lighting systems, distribution boards, and electrical panels.
- Strong problem-solving skills and physical stamina.
- Willingness to work flexible hours or in emergency situations.
Facility Power Management:
- Monitor grid supply (PHCN/DisCo) and coordinate switching with generator backup.
- Optimize energy usage and report irregularities.
- Assist in planning and implementing electrical systems for new projects.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all electrical safety protocols and generator handling procedures.
- Identify potential risks and recommend preventive measures.
- Ensure use of PPE and compliance with occupational safety standards.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Keep accurate maintenance logs and spare part usage records.
- Prepare and submit daily/weekly reports to management.
- Escalate critical faults as necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements
- OND, Trade Test, or Technical College Certificate in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 2–5 years of proven experience in electrical and generator maintenance.
- Knowledge of generator brands such as Perkins, Mikano, FG Wilson, or CAT.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and use electrical diagnostic tools.
