Job Summary
- The successful candidate will oversee daily operations, supervise pharmacy staff, and maintain professional standards across all areas of pharmacy practice.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately dispense prescribed medications and counsel patients on the safe and effective use of medicines.
- Uphold professional ethics in dispensing poisons, controlled drugs, and other prescription-only medicines in line with PCN standards.
- Conduct medication reviews and implement disease management interventions to promote better health outcomes.
- Administer vaccines and other approved immunization services.
- Initiate and maintain a consultation book for proper documentation of consultations and follow-up with patients.
- Expand and organize the supplement shelf to enhance aesthetics, visibility, and product accessibility.
- Initiate and supervise monthly stock-taking for reconciliation accuracy and to minimize discrepancies or fraudulent activities.
- Monitor product expirations and issue timely alerts on short-dated stock.
- Conduct point-of-care testing for patients to aid diagnosis and treatment.
- Carry out periodic assessments and reviews of supplement and vitamin sales for performance tracking.
- Act as the Superintendent Pharmacist responsible for the professional and clinical management of the pharmacy, including the administration, sale, and supply of medicines.
- Lead a team of pharmacy professionals, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and up-to-date staff training.
- Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with PCN regulations and other relevant statutory requirements.
Other Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) standards.
- Supervise and oversee the sale and supply of medicines to patients, ensuring accuracy and professional service delivery.
- Develop, document, and maintain effective Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required by PCN.
- Provide clinical and professional leadership to all pharmacy staff.
- Monitor and assess the training, performance, and competencies of pharmacy staff in line with PCN’s Code of Ethics.
- Maintain the Pharmacy Record in compliance with the Medicines Act and PCN guidelines.
- Ensure medicines are stored appropriately, temperature logs are maintained, and procedures are followed for the safe disposal of expired or returned medicines.
- Manage controlled drugs according to The Safer Management of Controlled Drugs principles, maintaining accurate records at all times.
- Support management during audits, inspections, and continuous improvement activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- B.Pharm or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) Degree.
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years post-qualification experience, with at least one year in a superintendent or senior pharmacist role.
- Must be a Registered and Licensed Pharmacist authorized to practice in Nigeria.
- Excellent understanding of pharmacy operations, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and professional integrity.
