Senior Immunization Technical Advisor (Abuja)

GENERAL INFORMATION:

JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) is a public health management consulting and research organization dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities throughout the world. JSI is currently implementing the Routine Immunization Project. The project’s overarching goal is to strengthen routine immunization programs to 1) sustainably overcome the entrenched obstacles contributing to stagnating and declining immunization rates in the supported states, and 2) address the barriers to reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children with life-saving vaccines and other health services. 

The Project will provide technical assistance to support routine immunization strengthening in the supported states, applying a co-creation approach to improve equitable coverage with a focus on identifying, understanding, and reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children. 

Position SUMMARY:

The Senior Immunization Technical Advisor (SITA), under the supervision of the Project Director, manages information and reporting processes and products to ensure professional, high-quality communication about the Routine Immunization programmatic activities. The SITA will also play an important role in improving Program Activity implementation management, periodic activity reporting and in strengthening knowledge sharing and learning across the organization and with the international health and development communities, including NPHCDA and SPHCDAs.

Specific responsibilities

  • Support the strengthening of the NPHCDA, SPHCDAs, where relevant to RI; work directly on a daily basis with other partners involved in supporting RI services, in conjunction with the Project Director.
  • Provide quality institutional and individual capacity building to national and state counterparts to manage and implement tailored approaches for sustainable and equitable access to immunization.
  • Represent JSI to donors, the NPHCDA, SPHCDAs, and other partners through participation and/or leadership in national-level meetings, technical advisory groups, working groups, and other high-level coordinating forums.
  • Lead and ensure consistency in effective external coordination and communications with the donor and at the national level, under the leadership of the Project Director.
  • Provide strategic communications support to technical team members, HQ advisors, and the CD in the preparation and packaging of reports, technical briefs, and presentations.
  • Share lessons and experiences of the program and promote iterative learning at all levels 
  • Under the Project Director’s guidance, help to cultivate and maintain strong, transparent working relationships among partners, stakeholders, and government agencies and working groups to ensure stakeholder buy-in and effective collaboration.
  • Participate in routine team meetings with JSI headquarters team, and convene and lead JSI team, technical, and other meetings as directed by the Project Director. 
  • Mentor technical and program staff.
  • Participate actively in all close-out activities and report writing at all levels
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Project Director, CD, and JSI HQ.

Minimum qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public health, health administration, international health, or related field.  MD, including clinical training/background in routine immunization, preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, including in Nigeria, with at least 5 years in a senior technical position managing complex international health projects/programs with an emphasis on routine immunization/RMNCH. Experience with USG and Other funded programs is a plus
  • Commanding knowledge of current global, regional, and Nigerian health policies, strategies, guidelines, and issues related to RI
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Nigerian health system and ability to build and sustain strong relationships with key Nigerian and global partners in RI
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including outstanding presentation and meeting facilitation skills
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proven leadership, team building, and mentorship skills, with the ability to organize and motivate teams.
  • Ability to travel to work in a complex operating environment with demanding deadlines, rapidly shifting priorities, and high expectations for performance.
