Reconciliation Officer
The Reconciliation Officer is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and complete reconciliation of all financial transactions across various banking channels and accounts. The role supports the identification and resolution of discrepancies, enhances financial accuracy, and contributes to smooth operational processes within the bank.
What You’ll Do
- Perform daily reconciliation of bank accounts, transaction journals, settlement accounts, and other operational ledgers.
- Compare system records (e.g., core banking system, payment switches, wallet platforms) with external reports such as bank statements, GL reports, and settlement files.
- Identify variances, unposted items, and irregularities in daily transactions.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies, unbalanced entries, or unallocated credits/debits.
- Follow up with relevant units—IT, Finance, Operations, E-Business, and Customer Service—to ensure prompt closure of identified issues.
- Escalate unresolved reconciliation issues according to standard procedures.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation reports for management.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails of reconciled items.
- Support the Finance team with End-of-Month (EOM) reporting and balance confirmations.
- Ensure all reconciliation activities comply with internal policies, regulatory guidelines (CBN), and audit requirements.
- Assist Customer Service in resolving transaction-related disputes or complaints.
- Confirm transaction status (successful/failed) using system records to support refunds, reversals, or chargebacks.
- Carry out any other duties as instructed by the supervisor.

What You Bring
Required Qualifications / Experience
- HND / B.Sc. in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
- Three (3) years of experience with electronic payment systems + digital financial services or banking industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, basic formulas).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Knowledge of payment channels (POS, NIP, USSD, Wallets, Cards).
