Project Planner

Job Description

  • The Project Planner is responsible for developing, monitoring, and maintaining project schedules, resource plans, and progress reports to ensure timely and cost-effective execution of oil and gas projects.
  • The role ensures alignment between engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, providing accurate forecasting, analysis, and reporting to support decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain detailed project schedules (using Primavera P6/MS Project or equivalent).
  • Work with project managers and discipline leads to define work breakdown structures (WBS) and establish baselines.
  • Track progress against schedules, highlight variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare resource loading plans and forecasts for manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Support cost control by integrating schedules with budgets and monitoring earned value performance.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure project milestones are realistic and achievable.
  • Generate weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, and presentations for management and clients.
  • Identify risks, delays, and opportunities; propose mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure planning processes comply with company procedures, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing input on planning and scheduling matters.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Project Management or any relevant field is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in project planning/scheduling within the oil and gas industry.
  • PMP, APM, PRINCE2®, or equivalent Project Management Certification.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles (WBS, critical path analysis, earned value management).
  • Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and HSE requirements.
