Physics and Science Teacher
Job Purpose
To deliver engaging and rigorous Physics lessons aligned with both the British (Cambridge/IGCSE) and Nigerian national curricula, fostering students’ curiosity, critical thinking, and appreciation of the natural world while preparing them for success in internal and external examinations.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver well-structured lessons that meet the requirements of the British and Nigerian curricula.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and resources—including demonstrations, simulations, and practical experiments—to develop learners’ understanding of physical concepts.
- Differentiate instruction to support mixed-ability groups, ensuring that all students are appropriately challenged and supported.
- Prepare students effectively for examinations such as WAEC, NECO, and IGCSE Physics.
- Integrate ICT tools and digital learning platforms to enhance lesson delivery and promote independent learning.
- Encourage students’ participation in STEM activities, science fairs, and related enrichment programmes.
Assessment and Record Keeping:
- Design and administer class tests, assignments, and practical assessments in line with school policies.
- Mark and provide constructive feedback that helps students improve.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behaviour.
- Use assessment data to track progress and inform instructional decisions.
Classroom Management and Environment:
- Create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom atmosphere that promotes effective learning.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with school policies and model positive behaviour.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and safety of laboratory equipment and materials.
- Promote awareness and practice of laboratory safety rules among students.
Collaboration and Professional Duties:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Science Department and across subjects to promote interdisciplinary learning.
- Participate actively in departmental and staff meetings, open days, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students’ academic and personal development.
- Contribute to co-curricular and extracurricular activities that promote scientific inquiry and innovation.
Professional Development:
- Stay abreast of current developments in Physics education and integrate new ideas and methods into teaching.
- Engage in continuous professional learning, including training in digital pedagogy, STEM integration, and assessment strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physics Education, or a related discipline (B.Ed, B.Sc, or B.Tech with PGDE).
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a British/Nigerian secondary school setting.
- Familiarity with Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE, and WAEC/NECO Physics syllabi.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
- Strong laboratory management and practical science skills.
Core Competencies:
- Deep understanding of Physics concepts and pedagogy.
- Effective classroom management and lesson planning skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in ICT and virtual learning platforms (Googl e Classroom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
