Pharmacist Manager
The Pharmacist Manager for the Famkris Healthcare Initiative Support to the Malaria Elimination Program will lead all aspects of good pharmaceutical care practices, support warehousing, distribution, and inventory management at the health facility level. This critical role ensures the continuous availability of malaria-related health products, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with donor regulations, at the service delivery points. The Pharmacist Manager will work collaboratively with stakeholders and a multidisciplinary team to optimize logistics, maintain inventory integrity at health facilities, and enhance the program’s supply chain efficiency. Key deliverables for this role include working with a multidisciplinary team to establishing a fully functional supply chain system that guarantees uninterrupted availability of malaria related health products at health facilities, supporting accurate quantification and supply planning. The manager will also oversee health facility staff training, resulting in improved capacity within the supply chain team, and maintain comprehensive compliance documentation to meet donor and national guidelines. This position demands strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and a commitment to operational excellence in delivering life-saving medicines and supplies.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Procurement and Supply Planning:
- Together with a multidisciplinary team, develop and implement procurement strategies in line with donor and national guidelines.
- Together with multidisciplinary team, coordinate forecasting and quantification for malaria commodities, including ACTs, RDTs, and SP.
Warehousing and Inventory Management:
- Ensure good storage practices of pharmaceutical products at service delivery points to maintain quality and safety.
- To provide technical support on inventory management and control systems to track stock levels and prevent shortages or overstocking.
Distribution and Logistics:
- Support execution of last-mile distribution plans to ensure timely delivery of malaria commodities to health facilities.
- Monitor the logistics and supply to identify and resolve bottlenecks affecting supplies at service delivery points.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Support to ensure all procurement and distribution activities comply with donor regulations and national policies.
- Support health facilities to ensure good dispensing practices and protocols.
- Mentor and support a person’s managing health products at service delivery points in proper documentation and generating of quality LMIS data in a timely manner.
- Build capacity on pharmacy best practices and regulatory compliance at service delivery points.
- Support service delivery collation, reporting, and transmission of adverse drug reaction reports using the appropriate tools.
Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination:
- Provide support in the coordination of PSM TWG meetings.
- Provide TA to SMEP to develop and implement the annual operational plans (AOP).
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Together with a multidisciplinary team support preparation of periodic commodity utilization reports to program leadership and donors.
- Serve as the program’s primary liaison for pharmacy related matters at the health facility level.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.
- Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, Public Health, or Supply Chain Management.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in procurement, warehousing, distribution and logistics.
- Demonstrated expertise in donor-funded procurement and supply chain management.
- Strong communication skills in English (oral and written); knowledge of other Nigerian languages is an asset.
- Ability to work both in a team and independently and ability to transfer knowledge through formal and informal training.
- Experience with, and a demonstrated commitment to a community-based approach to development.
- Experience with the implementation of donor-funded programs is a plus.
- Ability to interface with multiple stakeholders, representatives, and partners professionally on an ongoing basis.
- Excellent analytical and information-seeking skills, and good decision-making skills.
- Experience with participatory planning and evaluation methods preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly and at short notice.
- Proven ability to function effectively as part of a multi-cultural team.
