Job Summary
- A leading healthcare facility in Port Harcourt is inviting applications from qualified and dynamic nursing professionals to fill the position of Matron (Head Nurse).
- This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing department to ensure delivery of excellent patient care, efficient staff management, and adherence to healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the nursing team, fostering a culture of professionalism, empathy, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure nursing services comply with national and international healthcare regulations and hospital policies, maintaining high standards of patient safety and care.
- Develop, implement, and monitor nursing protocols, guidelines, and training programs to enhance staff competence and service quality.
- Supervise daily nursing operations including patient care, staff scheduling, inventory management, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, allied health professionals, and hospital management, to facilitate seamless healthcare delivery.
- Lead performance evaluations, conduct staff appraisals, and promote professional development among nursing personnel.
- Manage conflict resolution, disciplinary procedures, and maintain harmony within the nursing department.
- Prepare reports on nursing activities and present findings to senior management.
Qualifications and Skills
- Registered Nurse with a valid practicing license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc) or equivalent; a Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Management is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 7 years’ clinical nursing experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a hospital setting.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare policies, nursing standards, patient care methodologies, and hospital accreditation processes.
- Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations, make sound decisions, and solve complex problems.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and mentorship of nursing staff.
