Agronomy Project Officer

Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation:
- Plan and implement field-level agronomy activities in line with project objectives.
- Deliver technical support to farmers on crop production, soil fertility, pest and disease control, and post-harvest handling.
- Organize and facilitate farmer field schools (FFS), on-farm demonstrations, and training sessions.
- Promote adoption of climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture practices.
Community Engagement & Support:
- Mobilize and support farmer groups, cooperatives, and community-based organizations.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and extension services to targeted beneficiaries.
- Work closely with community leaders, local authorities, and agricultural extension officers.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Collect and document field data on planting, yield performance, and farming practices.
- Contribute to project reporting, assessments, and learning activities.
- Ensure timely submission of activity reports, success stories, and case studies.
Coordination & Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other technical teams (livelihoods, WASH, nutrition) for integrated programming.
- Participate in planning meetings, reviews, and stakeholder coordination platforms.
- Support input distribution, seed trials, and agro-input vendor linkage when required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Science, or a related field.

Method of Application
ZOA’s Programme in Nigeria
- ZOA has been working in Borno State in Nigeria since 2016 especially in 10 LGAs in Borno State and 3 LGAs in Yobe State.
- We reach out to the internally displaced persons and vulnerable host communities with emergency humanitarian & early recovery assistance to meet their needs.
- ZOA Nigeria focuses on Food Security & Livelihoods, WaSH, Education.
Responsibilities
- Visiting sites and ensure quality assurance of shallow borehole construction being delivered and adherence to design specifications.
- Assist the drilling team to map out/ identify high yielding points within the region in Bama.
- Assist the line manager in the selection, design and construction of water systems, using ground water, including abstraction and distribution.
- Considering different maintenance mechanisms, ensuring that they are appropriate to the local context and cultural norms and that facilities are sustainable in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders;
- Preparing training tools on relevant technical topics and conduct onsite trainings farmers on borehole operation and maintenance.
- Assisting the line manager in the development of technical guidelines and tools;
- Assessing areas for improvement and recording lessons learnt for future activities;
- Ensure the involvement of state ministry of water resources and update the borehole database together with RUWASSA.
Requirements
- B.Sc. or B.Eng Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Computer Engineering, depending on the field.
