The Commodity Trader will be responsible for managing buying and selling activities of agricultural commodities within assigned zones. The role involves identifying profitable trading opportunities, maintaining supplier and buyer relationships, and ensuring timely execution of transactions in compliance with company policies. The position demands strong negotiation skills, deep market knowledge, and a data-driven approach to decision-making.

Job Details

  • Develop and execute commodity trading strategies to meet volume and profit targets.
  • Source quality commodities directly from farmers, aggregators, and local markets.
  • Maintain a consistent pipeline of suppliers and buyers while fostering strong relationships.
  • Conduct regular market intelligence, pricing analysis, and competitor tracking.
  • Monitor commodity quality, volume, and delivery timelines during transaction cycles.
  • Coordinate with quality, logistics, and finance teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly trading reports and forecasts.
  • Ensure strict compliance with company trading guidelines and risk policies.
  • Track and manage trade receivables and settlements to avoid exposure.
  • Support field officers with onboarding and training on quality and trading practices.

Requirements

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, or related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commodity trading, procurement, or agribusiness.
  • Strong background in trading of agricultural commodities such as cocoa, sesame, or cashew.
  • Deep understanding of local sourcing practices, commodity logistics, and quality parameters.
  • Experience working with rural suppliers, aggregators, and processors.
  • Knowledge of pricing structures, value chain, and supply-demand dynamics.

Skills:

  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and pricing strategy capability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools.
  • Ability to thrive in a field-intensive, target-driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The Trader will be responsible for executing buying and selling activities of commodities within the corporate office and relevant trading zones. This includes supporting logistics, pricing decisions, and documentation of trade contracts. The role also involves maintaining good relationships with key clients and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless commodity flow and profitability.
