Job Responsibilities
Patient Care & Assessment:
- Recording medical histories and symptoms.
- Measuring visual acuity and intraocular pressure.
- Monitoring vital signs.
Clinical Procedures:
- Assisting the ophthalmologist with exams and treatments.
- Administering eye drops and other ophthalmic treatments.
- Conducting special clinical investigations like fundus photography or biometry.
- Preparing patients for eye surgery or other procedures.
Patient Education:
- Providing information and advice on eye health.
- Counselling patients on their condition and management plans.
- Educating patients and families on post-procedure care.
Documentation & Administration:
- Maintaining accurate and updated patient records.
- Coordinating with other departments and staff for patient care.
- Completing necessary documentation according to policy.
Equipment & Environment:
- Operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment.
- Ensuring the clinical environment is clean and organized.
Job Requirements
- Education: An ophthalmic nursing qualification (e.g., ophthalmic nursing degree) is essential.
- Licensure: A valid ophthalmic nursing license is a must-have.
- Experience: 3 years prior experience as a nurse, particularly in ophthalmology, is often required.
