Description

  • The Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) is seeking an experienced Electrical Supervisor to join our Facilities Management team.
  • This role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems that support our exhibitions, collections, and daily operations.
  • As the Electrical Supervisor, you will lead a team of technicians and contractors, overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance, managing specialized museum systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and conservation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Supervision: Plan, schedule, and oversee electrical maintenance, repairs, and installations. Provide technical guidance and training to technicians and contractors.
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance:
    Develop and implement maintenance schedules for key electrical systems (lighting, power panels, generators, UPS, exhibition power circuits, specialized museum electrical systems, and AV/multimedia systems). Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults quickly to minimize disruptions.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to local codes, HSE standards, and museum conservation policies. Maintain inspection reports, test results, logs, and certifications.
  • Energy & Cost Management: Monitor energy usage, recommend efficiency strategies, and manage maintenance budgets effectively.
  • Projects & Contractor Management: Supervise contractors, review quality of work, and manage commissioning and handovers. Coordinate new installations, renovations, and exhibition setups.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Ensure backup systems (generators/UPS) are operational.
  • Act as first responder during electrical emergencies, protecting staff, visitors, and sensitive collections.
  • Training & Mentorship: Build team capability by training staff on safe practices, emergency procedures, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • HND / Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in electrical maintenance, with 2–3 years in a supervisory or senior technical role (preferably in a museum, commercial, or critical facility).
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of core engineering concepts (mechanics, kinetics, thermodynamics, materials science).
  • Excellent technical writing, reporting, and communication skills.
