Job Summary
- The Senior Corrosion Vetting Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for corrosion management, pipeline integrity, and materials engineering within the PMC team for NMHIRP.
- The role is responsible for reviewing, vetting, and approving EPC contractor deliverables related to corrosion control, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international codes, and NNPC requirements.
- The position demands strong technical expertise in corrosion engineering for pipelines and facilities, with proven experience in design, construction, and operational integrity of hydrocarbon infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and vet EPC contractor’s corrosion and materials engineering deliverables including:
- Corrosion Control Philosophies and Management Plans
- Cathodic Protection (CP) system designs
- Pipeline Coating and Lining specifications
- Materials Selection Reports (MSR)
- Chemical Injection strategies (corrosion inhibitors, biocides, scale inhibitors, )
- Corrosion Monitoring Plans and associated instrumentation layouts
- Ensure design compliance with international standards (API, NACE, ISO, ASME, DNV, ASTM) and NMHIRP project
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations on corrosion control methods for buried, submerged, and above-ground pipelines and
- Vet EPC contractor’s welding and fabrication procedures from a corrosion/integrity perspective, including post-weld heat treatment and material compatibility.
- Review inspection and testing plans (ITPs) for corrosion-related activities (coating, CP installation, hydrotesting, ).
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, Design Reviews, and Constructability/Operability workshops to address corrosion and integrity
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and field inspections related to corrosion prevention
- Provide oversight during pipeline construction and commissioning to ensure corrosion protection systems are properly installed
- Interface with NNPC, EPC contractors, and vendors on corrosion engineering issues, resolving technical queries in a timely manner
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and support capacity building for local
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Metallurgical, Materials, Corrosion, or Chemical
- Professional certification (NACE CP Level 2/3, NACE CIP, or equivalent) is
- 10–12 years experience in corrosion/materials engineering within the oil & gas industry, with at least 5 years in PMC/EPCM roles on large pipeline or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of corrosion control strategies for cross-country pipelines, pipeline stations, Manifolds, and
- Demonstrated expertise in cathodic protection design, CP surveys, coating/lining systems, and corrosion monitoring
- Experience in reviewing and approving EPC contractor/vendor technical
- Familiarity with Nigerian regulatory requirements and NNPC project standards is an
- Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement
