Supervisor Gas Gen Operator

Qualifications & Skills
- B Tech/HND/ND in Electrical / Mechanical or relevant field.
- 2–5 years’ experience in operating gas gensets (Jenbacher, MWM, Caterpillar, etc.).
- Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems.
- Safety-conscious and good communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Personal & Site Safety
- Always wear PPE: helmet, safety shoes, flame-proof clothing, gloves, ear protection.
- No smoking or open flames near gas genset area.
- Maintain housekeeping – no oil/gas spills, keep area clean.
- Be aware of confined space entry rules (e.g., gas engine room or cooling water tanks).
- Use of alcohol at site is prohibited.
Operation & Monitoring
- Start, run, and shut down gas gensets as per SOPs.
- Monitor operating parameters: load, voltage, frequency, power factor, lube oil pressure, coolant temperature, charge air pressure, and exhaust temperature.
- Record hourly readings in the logbook.
- Ensure proper gas pressure from the fuel line.
- Monitor cooling water, lube oil, and auxiliary systems (pumps, radiators, cooling towers).
Routine Maintenance
Troubleshooting & Safety
- Carry out daily checks: oil level, coolant level, gas pressure, filters, leaks, abnormal sounds and vibrations.
- Assist in scheduled preventive & breakdown maintenance (oil/filter change, spark plug replacement, tappet setting any repair activities etc.).
- Maintain housekeeping around genset area.
- Identify and report alarms, abnormal conditions, or trips immediately to the supervisor.
- Follow lockout-tagout (LOTO) and plant safety guidelines.
- Handle fire extinguishers and first aid in case of emergencies.
- Inspect gas supply pressure, fuel lines, and valves for leaks.
- Check lube oil, coolant levels, and ensure no contamination.
- Verify that safety devices (emergency stop, fire detectors, gas detectors) are functional.
- Confirm area ventilation and absence of gas accumulation.
- Use fire extinguishers (CO₂ / clean agent) and activate fire suppression system.
- Be trained in Emergency Shutdown (ESD) procedures.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily log sheets, breakdown reports, and maintenance records.
- Maintain the record of the spares supplied, available and used at site.
- Report any issues to O&M engineer/supervisor for corrective actions.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Genset availability (%)
- Plant load factor (PLF)
- Fuel efficiency (kWh/Nm³)
- Response time to alarms/trips
- Record accuracy and compliance with SOPs.
- Polite behavior with clients can be reviewed based on the feedback from the client.
