Overview
- Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is implementing digital health solutions to support public health programs. As part of ongoing system improvements and program expansion, Jhpiego seeks a to hire a competent individual to implement a series of technical developments, enhancements, refinements, and compliance updates for its mobile health applications.
Responsibilities
- Implement mobile app changes collated from visits from project supported states.
- Update and integrate Predictive Analysis into new and existing mobile applications.
- Improve the Mobile applications based on feedback loop during data synchronization operations.
- Implement historical risk score view on all developed mobile applications.
- Enhance the monthly in-app pulse surveys and feedback mechanisms to ensure adequate use of developed mobile applications.
- Implement modular architecture for existing mobile solutions to enable future expansion to other disease areas.
- Design and develop accessibility features in existing and future mobile applications.
- Implement in-app push notifications across mobile applications developed.
- Integrate existing mobile application with external APIs like the NAFDAC Greenbook, LOMIS.
- Implement and monitor the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature in developed mobile applications.
- Upgrade and develop robust user manuals for the existing and future mobile applications.
- Integrate existing and future mobile solutions into robust backends for unified data storage.
- Design and implement database storage mechanisms for robust data collection across all mobile solutions.
Deliverables:
- Implemented changes and bug fixes identified in all deployed mobile applications.
- Modularized codebase supporting plug-and-play modules for new disease areas (e.g., TB, MNCH) with architecture documentations.
- Functional accessibility settings (e.g., font scaling, screen reader support, colour contrast), user documentation.
- Integrated and tested predictive models on revised ML algorithms. Model documentation and code.
- UI component and backend logic for historical data collection, risk trends, verifications.
- Configured Cloud Messaging (or equivalent), notification service, and UI integration.
- Enhanced user notifications during sync (e.g., progress, success/failure messages, retry logic).
- Revised data collection, use, and privacy documentation based on approved standards from NDPR.
- Fully functional and tested Case Management component developed and delivered and exportable as a standalone module.
- Successful integration of the external APIs, enabling seamless, real-time information lookup within developed mobile applications.
- Operational Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and package recognition features that are capable of accurately scanning and identifying images and texts.
- Mobile applications compliant with modern accessibility standards, featuring functionalities such as screen reader support, dynamic text sizing, and high-contrast modes.
- Comprehensive and user-friendly User Manuals documenting all features and workflows of developed mobile systems.
- A secure, scalable, and efficiently designed database schema and implementation for the Case Management Module, ensuring data integrity and optimal performance.
- Implementation of offline-first mobile, using capture-and-sync later as well as USSD.
- Deployment and maintenance of fully integrated mobile solutions across Project supported states.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Health Informatics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in digital health system development.
- Proven experience with:
- Mobile app development (Jetpack Compose, Kotlin, Flutter or React Native)
- Modular software architecture
- Push notification frameworks (e.g., FCM)
- Accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Familiarity with IRB processes and data ethics in health systems.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Application programming Interface (API) integrations.

Method of Application
Purpose of Assignment
- The United State’s Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) project, implemented by Jhpiego require the services of s to build the capacity of Health Workers and Community Volunteeers in the implementing States (Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Ebonyi & Ondo) on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition and Facility Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) Quality in order to improve the nutritional outcome for women, newborns, and children in Nigeria.
Objectives
- Capacity building for States on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) and Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) and Immunization
Scope
- To build the capacity of the MCGL implementing States (Kano, Kastina, Kebbi, Ondo, and Ebonyi) for the implementation of IMAM, MIYCN & Immunization.
Expected Outcome
- The capacity of health workers and community volunteers buit on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), and Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) and Immunization.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a pre-test assessment for the health workers and community volunteers across the targeted health facilities.
- Develop a detailed training plan, agenda and curriculum for integrating IMAM, MIYCN and Immunization components based on national guidelines.
- Prepare and validate training materials (deck), job aids and reference tools tailored to the Nigerian context.
- Facilitate training sessions for health workers and community volunteers on IMAM protocols including OTP, SC and referral pathways.
- Deliver training and practical sessions on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN), including breastfeeding counseling, complementary feeding and maternal nutrition among others.
- Train Participants on immunization schedules, cold chain management, and integration with nutrition services.
- Build capacity on screening, diagnosis and management of acute malnutrition using MUAC, weight-for-height and clinical signs.
- Strengthen knowledge on nutrition-sensitive immunization practices and how to identify missed opportunities.
- Provide orientation on data collection tools and reporting formats for IMAM, MIYCN, and immunization services.
- Support the development of facility-level action plans to implement integrated nutrition and immunization services.
- Conduct post-training evaluations to assess knowledge retention and practical application and show the percentage knowledge gain.
- Develop and share a monitoring and supervision checklist for ongoing quality assurance.
- Produce a comprehensive training report including action pictures, attendance, pre/post-test results and key recommendations.
- Facilitate coordination meetings with facility managers and local health authorities to ensure ownership and sustainability.
- Identify and document best practices and lesson learned during the capacity-building process.
- Provide technical guidance on integrating community-based volunteers into facility-level service delivery.
- Recommend strategies for linking facility-based services with the community outreach and referral systems.
- Ensure all deliverables align with Nigeria’s national nutrition and immunization guidelines and global best practices.
Required Qualifications
Education
- A minimum of Bachelor’sdegree in Nutrition, Public health, Nursing, Medicine or a related health field.
- Masters or PhD is an added advantage.
Certification
- Certification or formal training in IMAM, MIYCN and Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI)
- Additional certification on training facilitation, project management or monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
Minimum experience requirement
- At least 10 years’ experience implementing nutrition and immunization programs in humanitarian or development settings.
- Proven experience in capacity building of health workers and community volunteers, especially in secondary facilities.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering training on IMAM, MIYCN and Immunization using Nigeria’s national guidelines.
- Experience working with government health system, including coordination with the State Ministry of Health and local health authorities.
- Familiarity with community-based health structures such as CHIPs and volunteer networks.
- Strong understanding of data collection tools (eg., Kobo collect, ODK or Google forms) and analysis for program improvement.
- Experience in developing SOPs, Job aids, and training manuals tailored to local contexts.
- Ability to conduct pre/post test evaluations and analyzed the result.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- A master trainer.
- Experience in using Microsoft packages.
