About the job
- The Industrial Engineer is responsible for analysing, designing, and optimising production systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain consistent product quality. This role ensures that garment manufacturing operations are streamlined, labour and machine utilisation is maximised, and the factory runs on world-class productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Line Balancing
- Maintain and optimize standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all production processes.
- Carry out time and motion studies to set accurate standard minute values (SMVs) for each operation.
- Optimise line layouts and balance workloads to ensure smooth flow and reduce bottlenecks.
- Monitor daily line efficiency and recommend adjustments in real time.
Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Apply lean principles (5S, Kaizen, Just-in-Time) to eliminate waste and rework.
- Identify process gaps and design innovative solutions to improve productivity.
- Conduct root cause analysis of quality or efficiency issues and propose corrective actions.
Capacity & Costing Support
- Work with costing and planning teams to provide accurate capacity data for order booking.
- Ensure cost sheets reflect true labour and machine efficiency assumptions.
- Recommend optimal order allocation to lines to meet deadlines without excess overtime.
Quality & Compliance Support
- Collaborate with quality team to ensure processes meet customer and internal quality standards.
- Monitor operator performance to minimise defects and rejects.
- Ensure adherence to safety and compliance standards in all production methods.
Training & Workforce Development
- Train operators and line supervisors on standard methods and efficiency techniques.
- Support HR and Factory Operations in developing a skills upgrade pipeline.
- Provide performance feedback to supervisors to improve team productivity.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and maintain production dashboards (efficiency, utilisation, downtime).
- Analyse variance between planned vs. actual production and provide insights.
- Prepare weekly/monthly IE reports for management decision-making.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in garment or textile manufacturing (preferably factory floor).
- Strong knowledge of garment production processes and SMV calculation.
- Skilled in lean manufacturing, process improvement, and workflow optimisation.
- Proficiency in Excel, ERP/MES, and production analysis tools.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
