Head of Retail Sales – (BNPL)

Purpose Statement

  • We are in search of a highly skilled and experienced Head of Retail Sales to lead and accelerate CredPal’s retail credit growth.
  • In this role, your primary responsibility will be to own BNPL retail disbursements end-to-end from aggressively driving merchant sign-ups and onboarding, to activating new BNPL users daily, to achieving ₦3B+ monthly disbursement targets.
  • This position requires a hands-on leader who doesn’t just design sales strategies but actively executes them in the field.
  • The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 5–7 years of successful credit or retail sales leadership experience, with a proven track record of exceeding ambitious revenue and disbursement goals.
  • You must demonstrate strong financial acumen, the ability to scale sales teams, and the drive to build a performance culture that consistently delivers results.
  • Above all, we’re looking for someone who can inspire, mentor, and motivate a high-performing retail sales team, while ensuring operational discipline and portfolio quality through effective credit risk management.

Responsibilities
Ownership:

  • Define and execute BNPL retail strategy aligned with company growth goals.
  • Drive merchant acquisition and onboarding at scale.
  • Grow BNPL consumer adoption and GMV penetration.
  • Own P&L for the retail BNPL vertical, including pricing, margins, and risk metrics.
  • Build partnerships with major retail chains and e-commerce platforms.
  • Collaborate with Product, Risk, and Growth teams on GTM plans and feature roll-outs.
  • Lead sales, account management, and merchant success teams.
  • Implement data-driven tracking for merchant and consumer growth KPIs.

Retail Channel Activation:

  • Identify, develop, and scale high-converting retail distribution channels (offline, online, or merchant-integrated).
  • Directly engage and activate new merchants or customer-facing partners when required.

Lead Generation & Conversion:

  • Build and execute end-to-end lead generation strategies for retail credit users.
  • Optimize conversion funnels through insight-driven testing, customer feedback, and market behavior.

Merchant Engagement & Acquisition:

  • Identify key retail merchant opportunities and onboard them into CredPal’s credit ecosystem.
  • Support merchants to drive customer awareness and product adoption.

Portfolio Quality & Repayment:

  • Ensure credit disbursed are to creditworthy customers through proactive screening and behavior monitoring.
  • Monitor repayment performance and collaborate cross-functionally on delinquency mitigation initiatives.

Data-Driven Execution:

  • Maintain and analyze dashboards for KPIs such as disbursement volume, active users, credit utilization, and repayment rates.
  • Use insights to inform strategic decisions and field interventions.

Market Intelligence:

  • Stay informed on retail lending trends, competitor activity, and customer behavior.
  • Proactively adapt strategies based on evolving market realities.

Cross-Functional Coordination:

  • Work closely with credit risk, operations, marketing, and product teams to ensure end-to-end efficiency in credit disbursement and usage.

Reporting & Forecasting:

  • Deliver regular performance reports with insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Forecast monthly sales and disbursement projections with accuracy and accountability.

KPIs / Success Metrics:

  • Monthly Retail BNPL Disbursement Volume – Total value of BNPL disbursed each month
  • Number of Active Disbursed Users – Count of unique users with active BNPL disbursements
  • Daily/Weekly Disbursement per Channel – Breakdown of BNPL disbursements by sales/merchant channel
  • Lead Conversion Rate (Onboarding → Disbursed) – % of leads that convert from signup to first disbursement
  • PAR (Portfolio at Risk) below benchmark – Maintain delinquency within approved benchmark levels
  • Credit Repayment Collection Rate – % of BNPL repayments collected on time
  • Sales Team Productivity – Disbursement and revenue contribution per sales rep

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field; MBA is a plus.
  • 5+ years in BNPL, payments, retail lending, or e-commerce leadership roles with proven growth and partnership track record.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding credit disbursement targets.
  • Strong understanding of merchant financing, and disbursement mechanics.
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of Nigeria’s lending landscape.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools, disbursement platforms, and digital onboarding flows
