Head of Accounts
Job Purpose
- The Head of Accounts is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, which includes a retail mall, fashion store, and events centre.Â
- The role involves providing strategic financial guidance, ensuring robust financial controls, regulatory compliance, accurate reporting, and efficient management of accounting processes across all business units.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead and coordinate financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting for all entities within the group.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic business decisions.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls across the group.
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
- Supervise general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed asset accounting.
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
Compliance & Audit:
- Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, including tax filings (VAT, PAYE, WHT,), regulatory returns, and audit obligations.
- Coordinate both internal and external audits, and implement audit recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with all financial and accounting regulations applicable to the retail, fashion, and events industries.
Team Management:
- Lead, supervise, and develop the accounting team across the group.
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
- Facilitate regular training and capacity development for finance staff.
Cashflow & Treasury Management:
- Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and oversee treasury functions.
- Liaise with financial institutions regarding facilities, banking operations, and funding requirements.
- Implement and monitor effective cost control and risk management strategies.
Systems & Reporting Tools:
- Oversee the implementation and optimal use of accounting and ERP systems across all business units.
- Ensure data integrity and accurate financial analytics for management decision-making.
- Generate regular financial performance reports for senior management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA) is mandatory.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, with at least 3 years in a senior or group-level role.
- Proven experience managing accounts in a multi-business environment (preferably retail, fashion, or events).
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Tally, or ERP systems).
- Excellent understanding of tax laws, compliance, and reporting standards.
