Fiber Technician

Job Description
The Fiber Optic Engineer is responsible for the design, installation (cabling), maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks to ensure efficient, reliable and ensuring high-quality fiber to Linkorg’s fiber infrastructure
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop comprehensive fiber optic layouts for FTTx deployments.
- Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to assess geographical, structural, and regulatory suitability for fiber rollout.
- Determine optimal cable routing, fiber distribution, and equipment placement to ensure scalability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Running fiber optic cables within residential estates, public streets, and individual client premises.
- Splicing, termination, and labeling of fiber optic strands according to design specs and standards.
- Install and configure network equipment such as Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), Optical Network Terminals (ONTs)
- Conduct comprehensive testing, including OTDR, power meter, and light source tests, to ensure signal strength and connectivity integrity.
- Perform scheduled inspections, repairs, and replacements of fiber cables and accessories, especially in high-risk or exposed areas (e.g., roadside ducts, estate junction boxes).
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to fiber cuts, signal loss, or poor performance using appropriate test tools and splicing equipment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network routes, fiber core utilization, and installation records, including estate layouts and client drop details.
- Generate as-built documentation, splicing records, and test result sheets.
- Provide regular project updates, network health reports, and escalation summaries to the Network Operations Manager and project stakeholders.
- Visit customer sites when needed to inspect installations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure proper cable routing into premises.
- Enforce best practices and quality control for cable laying, splicing, enclosure sealing, and labeling within high-density areas such as estates and business parks.
- Review and update standard operating procedures to reflect technological improvements in fiber deployment.
- Conduct field audits to ensure proper installation in compliance with internal and external regulatory standards.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in fiber optic network design, installation, and maintenance, preferably within the ISP industry.
- Proficiency in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience with fiber optic equipment, such as OTDRs, fusion splicers, power meters, and light sources.
- Strong understanding of FTTH, FTTx, and other fiber optic network architectures.
- Familiarity with networking protocols, standards, and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Certifications in fiber optics, such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent.
- Experience with GIS mapping software and network design tools.
- Knowledge of IP networking
Work Environment:
- Fieldwork involving site visits, installation, running cables, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks.
- Office-based work for network design, documentation, and reporting.
- Some travel may be required to different project sites and customer locations.
- Occasional on-call work may be required to address urgent network issues.
