Job description: The Drilling Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and executing drilling operations for oil and gas wells in a safe, cost-effective, and environmentally sound manner. This includes preparing drilling programs, monitoring daily drilling operations, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company standards.Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop drilling programs, including cost estimates, schedules, and equipment/material specifications.
- Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and other technical professionals to optimize drilling performance.
- Select appropriate drilling techniques and equipment based on well parameters.
- Monitor and analyze drilling operations and make real-time recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company standards.
- Troubleshoot operational problems and implement corrective actions as required.
- Prepare post-drilling analysis and reports including lessons learned.
- Liaise with service providers, contractors, and regulatory bodies as necessary.
- Ensure optimal utilization of drilling rigs, materials, and personnel.
- Evaluate new drilling technologies and recommend adoption where beneficial.
RequirementsEducation & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years experience in drilling engineering or field operations (offshore and/or onshore).
- Proven track record of designing and executing successful drilling projects.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of drilling engineering principles, well control, and downhole tools.
- Proficient in drilling software such as Landmark, WellPlan, or similar.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills. • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and make critical decisions. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related discipline.
- IWCF or IADC well control certification.
- Experience working in deepwater, HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature), or unconventional drilling environments.
