Compliance Officer

Role Purpose

  • As a Compliance Officer in Nigeria, you will play a critical role in ensuring Boku is operating in accordance with the applicable local and regulatory requirements. Reporting directly to the Global Head of Compliance, you will be responsible for ensuring the local compliance and risk frameworks are in line with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) requirements and expectations and work closely with the global risk and compliance teams to develop, maintain and implement the relevant local policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the Compliance framework for Boku in Nigeria, in line with the global compliance frameworks, to ensure the company is operating in accordance with the applicable local and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee, develop and implement relevant policies and procedures in line with relevant CBN requirements, including Anti-Money Laundering, Compliance and Risk Management.
  • Ensure customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), and know-your-customer (KYC) processes are in line with CBN requirements.
  • Manage regulatory reporting obligations for the local entity, including, but not limited to, reports required by the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (“SCUML”), Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 (“MLPPA”) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Anti-Money Laundering Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Countering Proliferation Financing of Weapons of Mass Destruction for Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions, and Other Related Matters) Regulations, 2024 (“EFCC Regulations”).
  • Work closely with legal, risk, product, and operations teams to ensure compliance is embedded in Boku’s local activities.
  • Support the Global Head of Risk in setting and implementing the local risk framework and strategy
  • Work closely with the global risk and compliance teams to develop, implement and maintain Boku’s local risk management and internal controls policies and procedures.
  • Act as a key advisor to local and global business stakeholders, providing timely and practical guidance on Nigeria-specific regulatory requirements and developments
  • Act as the main point of contact for compliance matters with the Central Bank of Nigeria
  • Act as a key point of contact for local external auditors, regulatory bodies, banking partners, and law enforcement.

Key Skills, Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience in compliance within the financial services industry, with a focus on regulatory compliance, governance and/or risk management
  • In-depth knowledge of the regulatory environment for payment institutions in Nigeria
  • Strong understanding of compliance and risk management practices
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptable, proactive, hands-on and capable of managing multiple shifting priorities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Compliance qualifications desirable, not essential
