Communication Assistant
Job Summary
JRS is recruiting for the position of Communication Assistant to be based in Borno State in preparation for anticipated funding from the European Commission Directorate for Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) for projects to be implemented in Ngala, Dikwa and Monguno LGAs of Borno State, Nigeria. Under the direct supervision of the National Communication and Advocacy Officer, the Communication Assistant for the Project will be responsible for supporting the planning, development, and implementation of internal and external communication strategies for the ECHO project. The role involves producing content, managing communication channels, and ensuring visibility of the project’s goals, activities, and impact to diverse stakeholders including beneficiaries, donors, and partners.
Key Responsibilities of the position
Role/Mission
- Assist in developing and implementing a communication strategy for the ECHO project.
- Draft and edit communication materials such as press releases, newsletters, case studies, social media content, and human-interest stories.
- Support documentation of project activities through photography, video, and written content.
- Liaise with field staff to gather content and success stories from project sites.
- Ensure branding and visibility guidelines of the donor and organization are adhered to in all communication outputs.
- Support the update of JRS communication channels (website, social media, newsletters) with ECHO related content.
- Assist in organizing and covering project-related events, trainings, and campaigns.
- Support the monitoring and evaluation team by producing communication materials from collected data (infographics, reports summaries).
Required Profile
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Education, International Development, or related field.
Experience and Skills
- At least 1–2 years of relevant experience, preferably in a humanitarian or education-focused organization.
- Proven experience in writing, editing, and content creation (samples may be requested).
- Familiarity with education in emergencies, humanitarian principles, and the needs of affected populations is an asset.
- Experience with photo and video editing software is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- The position is open to Borno State Indigenes.
Languages:
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written) required.
- Fluency in Local languages strongly preferred.
