Climate Data Analyst

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret climate and weather data from NIMET and other reliable sources to generate localized information relevant to Illela farmers.
  • Translate complex weather forecasts into clear and practical advisories that farmers and herders can use to make informed decisions about planting and grazing.
  • Train Natural Resource Management Committees and community champions on interpreting and disseminating seasonal forecasts at the grassroots level.
  • Work closely with project staff to integrate climate advisories into CSA trainings, ensuring they are accessible to women, youth, and IDPs.
  • Establish and maintain channels for climate information dissemination through radio programs, SMS messages, and community forums in Hausa.
  • Conduct climate risk assessments for local farming systems, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending adaptive practices to strengthen resilience.
  • Collaborate with Sokoto State institutions and NIMET to align project climate services with government-led climate information frameworks.
  • Produce climate-related bulletins, infographics, and reports that are tailored for both technical partners and community-level use.
  • Contribute verified climate data to M&E systems and donor reporting to demonstrate project impact on adaptation and resilience.
  • Monitor the uptake of climate information by farmers and assess its impact on crop productivity, water management, and conflict reduction.

Qualifications

  • BSc. in Meteorology, Environmental Science, Climate Studies, or Data Science; an MSc. in a related field is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in climate data analysis, weather forecasting, or agricultural climate services in Nigeria.
  • Strong proficiency in GIS, statistical analysis software, and mobile-based data collection platforms for climate data management.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify technical climate information into farmer-friendly advisories for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in training local communities and committees on interpreting forecasts and applying them to agricultural planning.
  • Strong knowledge of climate risks and challenges specific to Sokoto State and the wider Northwest Nigeria region.
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English and Hausa; knowledge of Fulfulde or other local dialects is an advantage.
