Position Overview

The Business Development Executive (BDE) is a results-driven professional responsible for identifying, pursuing, and closing new business opportunities across the Microfinance Bank (MFB) and Asset Management (AM) product lines. The BDE will be crucial in growing the bank\’s deposit base, loan portfolio, and wealth management assets, targeting individuals, SMEs, and institutional clients within the competitive Lagos market.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Generation & Sales Execution

  • Asset Acquisition: Actively prospect and acquire new clients for the Asset Management division, promoting investment products such as mutual funds, fixed-income instruments, and bespoke wealth management portfolios.
  • Liability Generation (MFB): Drive significant growth in the Microfinance Bank’s deposit base by opening new high-volume savings, current, and target savings accounts from individuals and Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
  • Loan Origination: Identify and onboard qualified loan applicants (SMEs and individuals) for the MFB, meeting strict targets for loan volume and quality, while ensuring adherence to credit policies.
  • Cross-Selling: Effectively cross-sell MFB services (loans, accounts) to existing Asset Management clients and vice versa, maximizing the client\’s relationship value.

Market Strategy and Networking

  • Target Market Penetration: Develop and execute strategic business development plans to penetrate key sectors and geographic clusters in Lagos (e.g., commercial hubs, markets, professional bodies).
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain robust relationships with potential and existing clients, acting as the primary point of contact and ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  • Networking: Represent the MFB and Asset Management divisions at industry events, trade shows, and business forums to expand the professional network and generate leads.
  • Brand Advocacy: Serve as a brand ambassador, clearly articulating the unique value proposition of a combined Asset Management and Microfinance institution.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Performance Reporting: Prepare detailed weekly and monthly reports on sales pipeline status, conversion rates, client acquisition numbers, and revenue targets.
  • KYC/Documentation: Ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements, managing the Know-Your-Customer (KYC) process for all new accounts and investment mandates efficiently and accurately.
  • Market Feedback: Provide valuable market feedback to product development and marketing teams regarding customer needs, competitor activities, and product gaps.

Required Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of proven, successful Business Development experience within the Microfinance, Banking, Asset Management, or Financial Services sector in Lagos.
  • Sector Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of financial products, including retail savings, loan products, and investment instruments (funds, treasury bills).
  • Skills: Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven ability to meet ambitious sales targets under pressure.
  • Attributes: Highly self-motivated, target-driven, strong ethical standards, and excellent business acumen.
  • Compliance: Basic familiarity with CBN and SEC regulations governing microfinance banking and asset management.
