The Role / Duties
- The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University and is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for:
- Overseeing all Financial operations (Budgeting, Accounting, Cash Management, Internal Control.
- Financial Planning, Reporting Audit liaison.
- Procurement Processes, Financial Compliance, risk Management.
- Any other duties assigned by the Council or Vice-Chancellor.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicant must satisfy the Following Minimum criteria (or better):
Academic Qualification:
- Candidates should possess a First Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a relevant discipline
- Professional Fellowship or membership of recognized professional accounting bodies (e.g. ICAN, ANAN, ACCA, ACA, CPA)
Experience:
- Minimum of 14 years’ post-qualification with at least 4 years of cognate experience in a senior financial/administrative role (e.g. Deputy Bursar or equivalent).
Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent Integrity
- Transparency
- Strong Financial Controls Orientation
- ICT Competence (Experience with ERP/Accounting software)
- Leadership and Communication Skills.
Additional Information:

Age Limit:
- Not above 59 years as at the time of appointment.
Terms or Appointment and Remuneration
- The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years in the first instance and on satisfactory performance, the person may have his/her tenure extended for a further period of one (1) year finally.
- Remuneration and conditions of service are in accordance with those applicable for the office of Bursar in Nigerian Universities (or as approved by University Council)
- The Bursar shall be placed on an appropriate grade/scale commensurate with experience and in line with national standards.
