Principal PE (Structural)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out and supervise design activities for Offshore Structures, Hulls, Risers & Moorings (OHRM) using Shell-approved software tools such as SACS, ANSYS, and Orcaflex.
  • Conduct structural support sizing, modifications, and verification using finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables including design reports, drawings, and installation procedures in compliance with API, DNV, ISO, and Shell standards.
  • Coordinate foundation and geotechnical design for subsea equipment, riser systems, and bottom-founded structures.
  • Interface with naval architecture scope for weight estimation and management.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary Detailed Engineering Design reviews, supporting procurement, fabrication, and installation phases.
  • Provide input on metocean design criteria and analyze relevant environmental data.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC, HSE, Lifting SMEs, and Planning functions to ensure safe and aligned engineering outcomes.
  • Review and endorse contractor procedures including lifting plans, installation analysis, and construction method statements.
  • Ensure HSSE compliance in all structural engineering activities and champion Goal Zero safety culture.
  • Engage proactively with installation and fabrication teams to resolve technical issues and drive structural quality.
  • Document and share Lessons Learned throughout the detailed design and fabrication stages.
  • Author daily, weekly, and monthly progress and site reports for internal and external stakeholders.

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience, with at least 10 years in offshore oil and gas structural engineering roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • COREN Registered Engineer (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria).
  • In-depth experience in FPSO and Deepwater engineering design and construction.
  • Proficient in FEA tools: SACS, ANSYS, Abaqus, Orcaflex.
  • Familiarity with international and local codes: API, AISC, AWS,
  • ISO, DNV, BS, EU regulations.
  • Experience in structural reassessment using inspection data and integrity assessment.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical, foundation, and subsea structural design.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and relevant design documentation software.
  • Experienced in interfacing with Lloyd’s Register and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of HSSE practices in the oil and gas industry and commitment to Goal Zero.
  • Strategic thinker and pragmatic problem solver with strong team collaboration abilities.
  • Previous involvement in projects involving floating systems, heavy offshore lifting, and mooring design is highly desirable.

Method of Application

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive day-to-day implementation of project security plans to maintain security risks at ALARP.
  • Provide daily status updates and periodic radio check-ins to ensure GSA alertness and site situational awareness.
  • Monitor and assure the effectiveness of physical security barriers and surveillance measures on-site.
  • Support documentation processes and seamless transition of security deliverables between project phases.
  • Oversee the deployment and coordination of GSAs, working closely with the Contractor Project Site Security Team to ensure adequacy and readiness.
  • Participate in daily integrated logistics planning to coordinate secure execution of all project movements (onshore & offshore).
  • Conduct Level 1 (LOD1) assurance reviews and track the closure of related security deliverables.
  • Ensure strict adherence to approved access control procedures across all worksites.
  • Liaise with Shell Intelligence to gather and share relevant threat intelligence for proactive response.
  • Interface with Bonga FPSO and Security Operations Centre to maintain an integrated security operating picture.
  • Report all security issues/incidents that could impact project safety or continuity to Company and Contractor Security Leadership.
  • Collaborate with contractors to coordinate emergency response activities and implement post-incident learnings.
  • Ensure VPSHR briefings are conducted for all GSAs and report any violations or concerns.
  • Participate in security drills and assurance exercises; follow up on improvement actions.
  • Provide operational cover for the Project Security Lead as needed.

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
  • Professional certifications such as PFSO, PSP, CPP (ASIS) or equivalent are advantageous.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, with at least 4 years in industrial security within the oil & gas sector.
  • Solid knowledge of E&P operations, particularly in the Niger Delta and Gulf of Guinea regions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing and monitoring security operations in high-risk environments.
  • Strong communication, planning, and analytical skills; able to collaborate and build consensus across functions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, data management, spreadsheet tools, and simple databases.
  • Experience with access control systems and logistics planning tools is an added advantage.
