Job description: Head of Department Obstetrics & GynaecologyLocation: Lekki, LagosDepartment/Division/Unit: Obstetrics & GynaecologyJob Objective/Purpose:The Head of Department (HOD) Obstetrics & Gynaecology will be responsible for coordinating and managing the hospitals Obstetrics and Gynaecology department while ensuring high standards of care are met.Reporting Relationships:Functionally Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Administratively Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Supervises: Consultant Obstetricians & GynaecologistsWorking Relationships:Internal: Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, other consultants, medical officers, directors, and nursing staff
External: Clients, patients, parents, and patient relativesKey Responsibilities:Coordinate and develop the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department.Supervise and support the team of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, ensuring patient care is optimal and aligned with clinical guidelines.Manage duty schedules for Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.Foster collaboration between departments.Participate in recruitment, orientation, and training of new staff.Lead department meetings and ensure achievement of departmental targets.Provide direct care for obstetrics and gynaecology cases and oversee high-risk deliveries.Conduct ward rounds and specialist outpatient clinics.Case reporting and documentation.Education and Qualifications:Education: MBBS or its equivalentProfessional Training: Residency in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from a recognized institutionLicensing: Valid medical practice licenseProfessional Qualification: Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or its equivalentExperience:A minimum of 5 years post-residency experience is required.Key Competencies:Functional/Technical:Strong Obstetrics & Gynaecology skillsBasic life support skillsTeaching, supervisory, and leadership skillsManagerial:Service-oriented, courteous, and collaborativeStrong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to multitask and manage high-stress situationsComputer literacyBehavioral:Strong interpersonal and communication skillsWork Cycle (Hours/Days):Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM 6:00 PMSaturdays: As per departments duty scheduleCall duty and weekend coverage as per the departments rotation.Benefits:Competitive salary packageHealth insurance coverageContinuing medical education opportunitiesProfessional development and trainingPaid leave (annual, sick leave, etc.)A supportive and collaborative work environmentHow to Apply:Qualified candidates should submit their resume and cover letter to with the subject line: “Application for Head of Department Obstetrics & Gynaecology”.
