Plant and Equipment Supervisor

Job Summary

  • The Plant & Equipment Supervisor shall be fully responsible for the management, operation, maintenance, and availability of all company-owned and hired plant, equipment, and machinery used across oil & gas and construction projects.
  • This role ensures that all equipment is in optimal working condition, complies with safety standards, and meets operational requirements to support the organization’s objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for the maintenance, serviceability, and safe operation of all plant and equipment, ensuring they are fit for purpose at all times.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce preventive and corrective maintenance schedules in line with manufacturers’ recommendations, statutory requirements, and company standards.
  • Monitor equipment condition through regular inspections, identify faults early, and coordinate timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date equipment maintenance records, service logs, inspection reports, and certification registers.
  • Ensure all equipment undergoes statutory inspections, third-party certifications, and calibrations as required.
  • Plan, coordinate, and control the deployment, mobilization, and demobilization of equipment to project sites in line with operational needs.
  • Ensure equipment utilization is optimized and downtime, misuse, and abuse are minimized.
  • Supervise equipment operators and plant mechanics, ensuring compliance with operating procedures and maintenance standards.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment operations comply with HSE requirements, Permit-to-Work systems, and site-specific safety rules.
  • Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety briefings related to plant and equipment use.
  • Ensure only trained, certified, and authorized operators are assigned to operate equipment.
  • Investigate equipment-related incidents, near misses, and breakdowns, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Control equipment-related costs, including maintenance, fuel consumption, spare parts, and rental charges.
  • Liaise with equipment suppliers, vendors, and third-party service providers for maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Support procurement in the selection, evaluation, and acquisition of new equipment where required.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly equipment reports, including utilization, downtime, maintenance status, and costs.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment performance improvement, lifecycle optimization, and cost reduction.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of OND / HND / BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Plant Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Technical trade certification in plant or heavy equipment maintenance is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years’ relevant experience in plant and equipment supervision within Oil & Gas, Construction, Marine, or Industrial environments.
  • Proven experience in managing maintenance programs for heavy equipment, lifting equipment, and power tools.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components at a supervisory level.
  • Demonstrated experience working in high-risk environments with strict HSE and compliance requirements.
