About the Role
- We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and compassionate Head Nurse to lead our nursing team.
- The ideal candidate will oversee all nursing activities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in compliance with professional standards and hospital policies.
- This role requires a strong leader who can inspire, mentor, and manage nursing staff to maintain excellence in clinical practice and patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision to all nursing staff across departments.
- Ensure that patient care is delivered safely, efficiently, and compassionately.
- Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Coordinate nursing schedules, rosters, and shift allocations to ensure adequate staffing.
- Oversee patient admission, discharge, and transfer processes for seamless operations.
- Monitor nursing documentation to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
- Conduct regular ward rounds to assess care standards and staff performance.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate continuous professional development programs.
- Enforce infection prevention and control measures across all units.
- Maintain an effective communication channel between management and the nursing team.
- Handle patients’ complaints or concerns professionally and promptly.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits to uphold hospital standards.
- Ensure that medical supplies, consumables, and equipment are adequately stocked and properly utilized.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Midwife (RM) with a valid license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification; a Master’s Degree or relevant management certification is an added advantage.
- 8–10 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or matron-level role.
- Proven leadership and team management experience within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of nursing standards, hospital operations, and infection control practices.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- High emotional intelligence, empathy, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
- Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
- Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining clinical excellence.
